Here's a transitional mix if there ever was one. With one foot planted firmly in Chicago and the other trying to hold on to Boston, Mully mixed some great midwest acts juxtaposed with some of his Boston favorites. Bookended by Robert Johnson this MixTape is 24 minutes of motivational music for your ass, wherever it may be. The set includes tracks from Spitzz, The Soviettes, The Evens, Teengenerate and The Tampoffs (sort of). |

When Screamin' Tina, former dj diva from WZBC in Newton, Mass, left for the midwest couple of years ago, she left a two-hour gap in local Boston radio that was soon filled with stoned undergrads playing shitty music and giggling incoherently between songs. C'est la vie, yah? Well, Tina's back with 28 minutes of vengeance on this, her first MixTape, proving that life - and good music - survives out here on the frontier. The set includes Boris the Sprinkler, Miss Alex White and the Red Orchestra, and The Nomads among others. And a PSA that we can all learn from..take heed sinners.. |

Too legit to quit, THUNDR is back with a reformatted and robust set. After the zeroing of mix tape #4 during a battle with KARR from Knight Rider (did you get your copy in time?), mix #16 spawned after a chance spill of Zima into the Independent's Galaga machine. The music is mostly electronic, partly supersonic, totally cool. We're trying out streaming audio on this mix, which will start to play quickly but can't be downloaded. Let us know what you think. |

Here's a Mixtape that almost fell through the cracks. We were so focused on garage, punk and Carolina Beach Music that we let this one simmer even though it's been done for months. Previous MixTape contributors Baron von Funtan (the DJ) and mixmastermully joined forces to bring some of their favorite hip hop tunes together in one tasty little mix. Some of these artists you'll recognize, others maybe not. Either way, you won't be disappointed. Featured artists include King Geedorah, the El's, Del the Funky Homosapien and others. Like a tapeworm, there exists inside of me a 14-year old boy who likes comix, bike riding + other unsupervised after school activities. Wear clogs and get closer to god which is dog spelled backwards which is clog spelled crowded. Featured artists include Sparks, Sham69, The Debutantes and others. MixTape #12: djBullitt presents Cracker Factory Bullitt looked at the other mix tapes in the Series and tried to figure out what was missing. So from this thought process there was an emphasis on girl bands (The Bangs, The Pussy Cats, Secret Hearts etc.) Six of the twelve groups here are girly groups, can you figure out the sixth one? "I also wanted to get some music in there that I grew up on that people here in the Northeast might not have been privy to like the BBQ Killers from Athens, GA. Also some Japanese bands that I discovered in Kyoto last year, Lizard & NYLON. Lizard is the real gem here, they've been around for 26 years (as far as I know), no one that I have ever talked to has ever heard of them and they're fucking great. "Again, what's missing? Hip Hop. Thus we have KRS-ONE formerly of Boogie Down Productions. I never saw him live but I did hear him speak at a Conference for Young Black Business Peoples about ten years ago. He basically said that 90% of you will be financial failures. That was dope "I put in U2 just to piss everyone off so fuck off. I mean, Enjoy!" MixTape #11: djSelecter70 Plenty of folks hear the words 'Reggae' and think of Dr. Seuss hatted whitey-dread stoners. Or if you say 'Ska', images of skinny vegan naked Cali pop-punks come to mind. Simply put, these reflect a tiny percentage of the music. The classic stuff draws from Mento-Calypso (and not just the Harry Belafonte befriending Chavez kind), Jazz, R&B and Soul music, delighting many (from teens in Harlem to Mods and Skins in London). So enjoy the Ska! Right click on the link below to save the file to your hard drive or sign up to receive automatic downloads through our RSS feed. Not sure how? Click here.

MixTape #10: Joe Tampoff He's the insult slinging drummer for Boston punk rockers, the Tampoffs. One theory on why Tampoffs songs are so fast is that it gives Joe more time to banter in between them. Despite his chatty reputation, Joe is remarkably tight-lipped with his description of this MixTape. "For the most part these are all songs. I didn't write them, so I won't bother speaking for them. That'd just be stupid." The set includes the Desperate Bicycles, Knaughty Knights, GG Allin and the Jabbers among many others.
